Lakota Funds and the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition (SDNHC) partnered with Big Water Consulting and Nancy Pindus (Urban Institute) to develop and conduct housing needs studies in two tribal communities in South Dakota: the Rosebud and Cheyenne River Indian Reservations. The communities of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation were selected based on an application from the Cheyenne River Housing Authority, and the town of Mission, South Dakota was selected based on an application from the Rosebud Economic Development Corporation (REDCO).

The studies were used to evaluate and examine the current housing needs and future housing markets within these tribal lands to inform planning for their respective proposed community sites.
