Northern Cheyenne Health and Housing Needs Assessment: Field Staff Training
Congratulations to the dedicated field team!
From August 19th - 21st, Big Water staff visited the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in eastern Montana to facilitate listening sessions and conduct a 2-day field staff training to launch the data collection phase of the Northern Cheyenne Health and Housing Needs Assessment. The Northern Cheyenne data collection team includes an experienced Survey Manager, an assistant manager, and 9 other local field staff.
Tribal president Serena Wetherelt (photographed below) kicked-off the training with guiding words for the field staff as they start the 10-week process of conducting surveys. During the training, the field team became acquainted with the project and its importance for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe to correct the story told about the households and families living on the reservation. Field staff got hands-on training with the survey instrument, field-based data collection software and materials, and practiced conducting surveys with community members before they begin traversing the rolling hills from Busby to Ashland and Birney.
This project - consisting of both a comprehensive household survey and supplemental qualitative data collection components - is funded by a grant provided through the Montana Healthcare Foundation, a statewide foundation with a branch that supports Native-led solutions to improving the quality and availability of health care, and the Wells Fargo Invest Native Grant, funds which are committed to advancing opportunities in Native American communities working with Native-led organizations.
