Project Description

The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority (NCTHA) is the tribally designated housing entity that offers quality and affordable housing services to eligible Northern Cheyenne tribal families residing on tribal lands. With a 63-year history, NCTHA has constructed over 800 homes for tribal members and now concentrates on the upkeep and restoration of existing housing. The Northern Cheyenne Health and Housing Needs Assessment is a thorough study carried out to pinpoint the most urgent requirements of individuals living on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.

The assessment intends to collect feedback from tribal members regarding their circumstances and obstacles in various areas of life, such as housing, healthcare, education, employment, and community safety. Quantifying the community's needs through the Northern Cheyenne Health and Housing Needs Assessment is crucial for attaining a comprehensive grasp of the required resources and formulating strategies to address these needs. This initiative will assist leaders and policymakers in recognizing the essential resources and aid needed to effectively tackle these needs.

The household survey for this project will target member households using an address list and housing unit map of all units on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Big Water Consulting will select a sample of 530 randomly selected housing units to be included in the survey. Those who are selected to complete the survey will have three ways to complete the survey:

  • Online (via URL and unique survey code provided to households)

  • Paper form (upon request, for subsequent pick-up)

  • Door-to-door/in-person (tablet-based with local field staff)

Funding for this project is graciously provided through the Montana Healthcare Foundation, a statewide foundation supporting all tribal needs assessments statewide through grant opportunities, in addition to funding provided through Wells Fargo’s Invest Native Grant.
