Project Description

The United Native American Housing Association (UNAHA) represents 34 Indian Housing programs/Tribes located in eight states: Montana, Utah, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and Idaho. These programs represent tribal governments on large land-based reservations.  It is estimated that a total of 250,000 Indians are served by these programs. Due to the sovereignty of UNAHA Tribes, each have a direct relationship with US Department of the Treasury. All 34 members qualified for funding.

UNAHA has utilized its own funding to monitor Treasury Program Guidelines, Frequently Asked Questions, and conference calls to gain a fundamental understanding of how the program would operate. Treasury had little understanding of how Indian Housing programs functioned as opposed to traditional HUD programs. UNAHA developed policies and procedures, forms and a recommended plan of action to be utilized by our members.  In addition, several Zoom and in person trainings were held to help our members gain understanding of the program and to assure compliance.

Big Water Consulting is supporting UNAHA’s efforts by creating tools to collect and manage ERAP operational data, allowing UNAHA to share best practices, ensure compliance with Treasury requirements, and provide support to Tribes and TDHEs where needed.
